Small forward Ron Artest debuted a new hairstyle at the Amway Arena in Orlando yesterday as he and the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Orlando Magic, in a rematch of the 2009 NBA finals.
Artest revealed his new hairdo - a bleached blonde crop with the word "defense" in Japanese, Hebrew and Hindi inscribed in Lakers purple - which quickly garnered comparisons with the colourful Dennis Rodman.
The hairstyle obviously didn't do the trick as the Lakers lost 96-94 and Artest allowed Vince Carter to score 25 points.
Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said "He had a struggle tonight, couldn't make a shot and everything was a foul on Carter. Ron really didn't get a chance to play the defense he's touted to play."
Unsurprisingly, Artest didn't quite see it the same way.
"I'm very happy with the way I played," he said. "I take the good with the bad. I played great. I'm very happy with how I played."
Fans of Artest on Twitter were given a sneak peak of his hairstyle Saturday night when he gave picture updates of the 'creation' in progress.
On the back of the Lakers' third straight loss, maybe Artest should have spent Saturday night doing something more productive like looking at film of the Magic offense.
