Girl dressed up as frum boy on Halloween

Postby closetpartyanimal on Wed Nov 01, 2006 8:31 am

I was in CVS yesterday and a teenage girl came dressed as a frum guy. She had short hair, peyos and a yarmulke. It was one of the strangest things I ever heard of to dress up as on Halloween. Gave me a good laugh. I told her I liked her costume. She laughed back.

No not at all. She looked like a girl with a short hair style with hairs sticking out of her ears and a black beanie cap.

It's interesting how the frum community is seen by society. There are very few, if any, movies or tv shows that have really gotten it right, when trying to portray a frum person.

Yeah I don't think they will ever get it quite right. How could they? We don't even realize how we portray ourselves.

I love it when the get the chassid with the hat and big payos but no beard (had this in Lucky Number Slevin.) Or they have the chassid with huge amounts of hair tucked under his yarmulka (Stranger among us.) Those are just a few.

I never saw a chossid portrayed without a beard. I would think people know that a chassid has a beard. That is pretty strange.

They also had one in that "Shalom/Wassup" parody that was going around the web a few years back.

Yentl was one of the most unbelievable, unrealistic looking "males" ever. I'm not sure who they thought they were kidding.
